Friend, Eric Sorensen here.

It's been an eventful couple of months in Congress, so I wanted to take a moment to hit pause and share some of the recent highlights. It's important to me that you're kept in the loop with what we're up to. I hope you enjoy these occasional updates, and if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to respond to this email directly.

Probably my favorite highlight from the past month was meeting with May I Community Outreach -- a Peoria-based organization led by ‘Coach’ Carl Holloway. This group is doing incredible work to keep disadvantaged youth off the streets by offering a safe place to spend time and get fed in the after school hours. We heard heartbreaking stories about how often the kids Coach Holloway serves go hungry. We need more Coach Carls who are making sure our kids are fed, taken care of, and safe from gun violence.

Our team is helping May I Community Outreach with the federal grant process to secure funding that will allow them to scale throughout Peoria and help more kids. I’ll never forget, near the end of our meeting, Coach Carl asked me “So what do you get out of this?” I looked at him and said “Nothing, this is my job!”

Last month I was appointed to the Committees on Agriculture and Space, Science, & Technology. I am using my background as a meteorologist and science communicator to advocate for family farmers in Central and Northwest Illinois. That means making sure our country is continuing to lead on technology and innovation. I was also honored to be named the ranking member on the Space subcommittee!

Our team continued Cheri Bustos’ long-running tradition of delivering Valentines for Veterans. Students from across the district submitted over 1,000 Valentines, and I went on the road to deliver them to four veterans’ centers across the district. It was fantastic to spend time with our ultimate heroes, the ones who’ve given so much to our community.

Last week, Under Secretary for Rural Development Xochitl Torres Small joined me in Galesburg to announce an $18 million investment in rural broadband.

It really has been an incredible couple of months, friend. I've said this before, but none of the work we’re doing would have been possible without you.

We’re quickly moving into our critical end of the first quarter fundraising deadline of the new year. This quarter is important because it’ll be an early statement about our momentum and ability to hold this seat.

In the meantime, if there are issues, ideas, or anything else you think I should be talking about, I want to hear them!

Be well, and talk soon.
