This past November, countless Americans proved how important the movement to protect and defend our democracy is to us and our communities. And in the coming weeks legislation that would preserve and strengthen our right to vote, the Freedom to Vote Act, is expected to be reintroduced in Congress.
The Freedom to Vote Act would protect the right to vote, ensure fair representation for all, and curb the influence of big-money special interests.
Essentially, it works to give electoral power back to everyday Americans and ensures that the government better represents the interests of "We the People!"
As voting rights advocates and allies prepare for this moment, we invite you to join a movement briefing call tomorrow at 7:00 PM ET (4:00 PM PT) that will feature People For President Svante Myrick; Congressman John Sarbanes (D-MD), sponsor of the Freedom to Vote Act; voting and civil rights advocates Martin Luther King III and Mrs. Arndrea Waters King, and others.
While Republicans and others on the right continue their efforts to undermine our democracy and restrict our right to vote, it’s going to be vital that we continue building – and maintaining – pressure on Congress to pass federal legislation that protects it.
