Message from the NJYD Women's Caucus Co-Chairs

Happy Women’s History Month! During this time, we reflect on the incredible women that have paved the way and the women that continue to carry that legacy. We have a long way to go in continuing to preserve our rights, but together we can create the change and support needed. We hope you join us for our upcoming events this month!

March Young Dem of the Month

Congratulations to our March Young Dem of the Month, Ameerah McCoy! Ameerah serves as an NJYD Women’s Caucus Co-Chair. She is a licensed social worker from Paterson who has been helping NJ residents access essential resources and information since 2017. While attending Bergen Community College, she worked in the Violence Intervention Prevention Center, coordinating sexual violence campus outreach and mentoring students with developmental disabilities at the Turning Point Program. She is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and a 2016 recipient of the Bergen County Urban League Scholarship.

She transferred to Ramapo College of New Jersey, where she focused on medical social work, helping patients in hospice and pediatric oncology. Ameerah served as Vice President of the Social Work Club and was inducted into Phi Alpha Honor Society. In 2020, she was granted scholarships from the American Federation of Teachers and the Carol Schaefer Human Services Award. She received her Master’s Degree in one year from Ramapo’s Advanced Standing Social Work Program.

Ameerah found her love for public service during an internship with Senator Nellie Pou (D-35) in 2018. Three years later, she became the Director of Constituent Services for Assemblyman Gary Schaer (D-36). Ameerah is also an active member of the National Association of Social Workers–NJ Chapter and serves as a committee member for its re-established Legislative and Social Action Committee. Congratulations again, Ameerah! We’re proud to have you on the team!
