John-
Today the Supreme Court ruled that partisan gerrymandering claims are "beyond the reach of the federal courts". This means that federal courts won't overturn blatantly partisan maps that only serve to keep the people who drew the maps in office. Decisions like these only serve to hurt voters like you.
The court's hands off approach to blatant partisan gerrymandering is extremely disappointing. Today's verdict opens the floodgates for state legislatures to continue pick their voters instead of their voters choosing who represents them. In a state like Texas, we know how far back gerrymandered maps can set us.
Now it's up to US to take matters into our own hands. The courts won't defend our right to have our voices heard. The pressure to help Democratic candidates up and down the ballot just increased exponentially, but I'm up to the task.
I've been fighting for a fair election process since I was first elected to Congress and I won't let the court's decision today stop me now. Will you help me make some noise by contributing to my campaign before the June 30th fundraising deadline?
