Dear John,
Today is International Women’s Day, my favorite day of the year. We all know a remarkable woman who has lifted us up, shaped us, and pushed us to do better. For me, that woman was my grandmother, Vi.
Growing up in St. Kitts and Nevis, I learned the importance of generosity and service from my grandmother. Granny Vi was an incredible woman who was always giving to and caring for others even though she had so little. Her resilience despite the odds is my daily inspiration.
Join me in celebrating International Women’s Day by making a contribution on behalf of a remarkable woman in your life and your gift will help fuel the fight for equality for future generations of amazing women, girls, and gender justice advocates. (We’ll even send her a card notifying her of your gift in her honor!)
I often think of Granny Vi’s life, how she had to stop attending school as a young child to help her mother at home. Though she had limited education and even fewer financial means, she later raised four girls on her own and made sure each of them finished college. Her story is similar to many women who struggle financially, yet still find time to nurture their families. I am grateful to my grandmother and all the other unsung heroes who do what’s necessary for their families.
John, take a moment to say “thank you” to the women and girls in your life today by making a gift in their honor.
Happy International Women's Day!
