John, You may have heard that the CPAC conference was happening in DC last week. This used to be a well-respected forum for conservative candidates to talk about policy, but has since morphed into a platform for Trump’s most faithful supporters to air their divisive views. It’s not surprising that so many prominent members of my party chose to skip the conference as the annual event is losing its influence. Instead, many well-respected Republican voices met nearby for the Principles First Summit and heard substantive policy discussions from leaders who are looking to return the party to positivity and problem solving. I was honored to speak to attendees of the conference. You can watch my speech below: |
We know what works when it comes to creating better opportunities for Americans. It's lower taxes. It's government as a last resort. It's local control on many issues and empowering communities to govern themselves. It's having debates that take us out of our comfort zone, while keeping an open mind and being respectful. It's easy to be against everything. Sadly, that's seemingly what today's Republican Party is all about. How many elections do we have to lose before people will wake up and realize that this doesn't work? You and I know that there is a better way. It starts by simply treating other people with respect and decency. From there, it's amazing how much common ground you can find with people, even if they have different political beliefs or life experiences. John - I'm committed to the mission of healing our politics and know that you agree with me. That's why I'm so proud to have you on the team. |
