** The One-Minute Meeting
------------------------------------------------------------
Despite the fact that one in 10 Oklahomans has a medical marijuana permit, Sooner voters said “no” Tuesday to legalized recreational pot use. It is a little odd since the current medical pot law in Oklahoma does not require a patient to prove anything is wrong. A doctor just needs to sign a permission slip, and even an online doctor can do that. 21 other states now have recreational pot laws. Texans hoped Oklahoma would join the group since the ballot issue would have allowed people from out of state to buy weed in Oklahoma. Americans have gradually warmed up to the notion of legalized marijuana sales over the last five decades.
The U.S. Department of Transportation put a little heat on airlines this week by publishing a dashboard that shows only three airlines have adopted the DOT’s recommended “family seating” rules. Family seating is a guarantee from the airline that it will seat parents and children together without fees, a last-minute scramble at the gate or having to ask other passengers to give up their seats to allow parents and children to sit together. Alaska, American and Frontier are all on board with family seating. I have an idea for airlines that would raise a lot more money. If they started seating other people’s kids in random seats, they could raise a lot more money from people who want to move to an “adults only” section. Don’t tell Spirit, the airline that never met a fee they didn’t like ([link removed]) .
France is trying to raise the retirement age for pensioners from 62 to 64. Lesson learned: Do not irritate old people by changing their retirement age. I speak from experience on this one. French seniors nearly rioted and plan on more demonstrations all week. Believe it or not, some countries consider 60 to be the full retirement age. I will give you a list in the column today.
The American Psychology Association published a study that asks why it is difficult for Americans to save money and they found something interesting. It seems, the researchers say, that “nice people” find it more difficult to save. I am a good saver, so make of that what you will.
