This International Women’s Day, we’re calling for #EverydayFeminism - daily acts that promote a gender-just, equal world.
An act of #EverydayFeminism can be big, like standing as a local elected representative to ensure diverse voices are heard. Or smaller, like equally sharing the domestic workload.
Little by little, these individual acts can grow into something far bigger - elevating the status of women across the world. Together we can build momentum for change.
Urgent call for funding
Womankind has not escaped the impact of the UK cost-of-living crisis. We have seen a significant drop in donations, as people have understandably put the essentials first. But right now, we urgently need your help.
In Nepal, we are working with Sankalpa, an alliance of women’s organisations striving to give voice, dignity and respect to all Nepali women.
Sankalpa works with women who are viewed by many as the lowest in society, including widows, Dalit women, women with disabilities, Indigenous women, and Muslim women.
Sankalpa are dedicated to ensuring all women can speak up and have their say in local and national decision-making.
Srijana’s Act of #EverydayFeminism: Acknowledging those who came before you
For Srijana (pictured above), project co-ordinator at Sankalpa, her work is deeply personal. Two generations ago, her grandmother was a women’s rights activist, demanding fairer treatment and equal rights for women in Nepal.
Srijana’s drive comes from knowing how fortunate she was to grow up in a home where she was seen as equal. She wishes this was true for more women in Nepal.
“Feminism really matters in my life because I saw how my Grandmother, as a spokesperson for the district commission, used to work for women rights…
She's 86 years old now. All the women really respect and adore her for what she has done. Being her granddaughter, I am fortunate because I was given the same opportunities as the sons in the family.”
We urgently need your support to continue working with organisations like Sankalpa. With only 1% of funding for gender equality reaching women’s rights organisations, our partners heavily depend on funding from Womankind to carry out their crucial work.
Your impact will be doubled
This International Women’s Day, you can double your impact. A generous corporate donor has agreed to match all gifts to this appeal pound for pound until the end of March.
I really hope you will join me in showing solidarity with the women’s movement this International Women’s Day, as we strive for a safer and fairer world for all women and girls.
Yours sincerely
