Virginia Teen Charged in Online Swatting Ring Linked to Neo-Nazis
With the assistance of ADL’s Center on Extremism, an alleged neo-Nazi was arrested on Friday, January 10th for his apparent role in a nationwide swatting campaign.
Federal authorities arrested 19-year-old John William Kirby Kelley of Vienna, Virginia, for his alleged role in a multi-national swatting and doxing case involving Canada, the United States and England. Kelley was charged with conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States, specifically interstate threats to injure. The arrest is part of a larger, ongoing international investigation. Swatting is the act of falsely reporting an emergency to someone’s home with the goal of having a police unit (usually a SWAT team) deployed to their residence. This can result in injury to the target or other witnesses and has even caused a fatality.
