We can’t let Trump’s lies go unchallenged.

John,

Just days after telling a CNBC reporter on camera that he was considering Social Security and Medicare cuts later this year, Donald Trump tweeted a lie:

Trump tweeted: "Democrats are going to destroy your Social Security. I have totally left it alone, as promised, and will save it!"

Meanwhile, his administration is pushing a rule that would kick hundreds of thousands of people off of their Social Security benefits. When this was tried under the Reagan administration 200,000 Americans lost their Social Security benefits―with more than 21,000 dying before their benefits could be restored after public outrage.

We can’t let Trump’s lies go unchallenged. Chip in $8 to fight to EXPAND Social Security, not cut it.

You can see the lie in the way that Trump talks about Social Security: He promises to “save” it. Here’s the truth: Social Security WORKS. It has paid benefits in full and on time for longer than Trump has been alive, and it is the only retirement program in America that we can still trust.

Politicians and billionaires use the word “save” to scare Americans into accepting less than the benefits they’ve earned because they’d rather cut taxes than make the rich pay their fair share. But that doesn’t “save” anything. There may still be a program called Social Security, but senior poverty will rise, people with disabilities won’t be able to get the help they need, and inequality will grow.

The solution―one supported by every Democrat running for President―is to EXPAND Social Security, not cut it. We should take what works about our retirement system and build on it.

That’s why over 200 Democrats in the House are co-sponsors of the Social Security 2100 Act, which would expand the benefits of millions of Americans and extend the lifespan of the trust fund―paid for by making the wealthy pay their fair share. That’s how we really “save” Social Security: Invest in this critical program and maintain it for generations to come.

Donald Trump obviously doesn’t agree. That’s why his budgets have proposed more than $2.5 trillion in cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. That’s why he spent his first year in office declaring war on seniors through Trumpcare. That’s why he put a pharma executive in charge of the Department of Health and Human Services.

We’re fighting back!

Donate to Social Security Works today to fight Trump’s lies. Instead of cuts to our earned benefits, it’s time to expand Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and strengthen them for current and future generations.

Thank you,

Michael Phelan
