non-alcoholic movement in St. Louis

With a growing population more health and wellness conscious, alcohol consumption is taking a dive. But, St. Louis bars and brewers aren’t taking a hit; rather they are changing with the times.

“I’m seeing people of all ages and all demographics and backgrounds coming in and ordering these non-alcoholic beers and cocktails. I think that it is a trend that is turning into a social movement. People are looking for ways to be social and they’re not drinking as much.”

Vertical gardens cooling
St. Louis

The Steward Family Plaza at The Sheldon now features a 208-foot vertical garden that will be covered in beautiful Missouri native plants in the years to come. Vertical gardens don't just look good; they DO good for the planet as well! Vertical gardens help to reduce the carbon footprint of a building by filtering pollutants and carbon dioxide out of the air, which also benefits those living nearby as the quality of the air is improved.

African American Meals and Meanings

In a new book about African American foodways, author Rafia Zafar chronicles the influence of black cooks on the way we eat. Slaves and recently freed people were highly respected for their talents in the kitchen. Some notable cooks even published cookbooks as far back as the 1800s. The cookbooks reveal much about the lives of their authors and the relevance of their recipes to this day.

Child star Margaret O’Brien

St. Louis meets one of the few living stars from the movie Meet Me in St. Louis. Margaret O’Brien, who played the precocious Tootie in the classic MGM musical came to St. Louis for a screening of the film and a Q and A with fans at the Tivoli Theater.
