How do we address the destruction of gun violence and the chaos of crime?

With gun violence surging in many of our communities, the media constantly pivots to criminal stereotypes of our people instead of looking at the real issues of gun trafficking, lack of resources for our communities, weak state gun laws, a broken justice system and so many factors that have amplified this crisis.

That's why I joined "The Problem, with Jon Stewart" show on Apple TV+ to discuss the crisis of gun violence and the aftermath of the 2022 midterms messaging around the rise of violent crime.

In front of a live audience and millions tuning in, we made a few things clear, more guns do not make us safe and the over criminalization of our communities is part of the problem, not the solution.

We reminded the viewers, that only 30% of homicides in Black communities are connected to felony crime and therefore we need to focus more on the community and health focused strategies proven to reduce gun violence.

Forward this email and video to help us continue to spread the message that the public health crisis of gun violence, requires a public health approach, not just more crime control measures.

The message I shared is one that so many have amplified before and it is always an honor to elevate our collective voice to new heights.  Thank you again for standing with us and making moments like this possible.

Onward,
