keeping you up to date on all things Northeast Wisconsin The February NEWsflash Friend, Welcome back to the February edition of The NEWsflash, a collection of stories and happenings from Northeast Wisconsin over the past month. February was a busy month where we celebrated the success of local businesses, honored the work of organizations giving back to the community, and heard from constituents on important issues. I've included some photos and highlights from a few of the events my team and I were able to attend. You can also find information on how my office can help you with any federal problem you may have. As always, please don't hesitate to contact my office if we can ever be of assistance. Semper Fi, Family Business Success: This month, I had the opportunity to tour BenShot and get a behind the scenes look at their unique glass workshop. BenShot started as father-son project in 2015, and has now developed into a top-selling business that makes “bulletproof” glasses. Supporting Careers in Public Safety: Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) received a $15,000 donation from AT&T that will create a scholarship program to support men and women pursuing careers in public safety. A member of my team attended the check presentation to commemorate the scholarship fund that will impact many NWTC students interested in public safety careers. NEW History: I also got the chance to tour the Heritage Hill State Historical Park alongside the park's Executive Director, Michael Telzrow. We toured the grounds of the State Park where you can find 26 original and reconstructed buildings and thousands of historical artifacts that represent the history of Northeast Wisconsin. Recognizing Zachary Shephard's Work: Eagle Scout Zachary Shephard was honored at his Court of Honor ceremony on February 26 and a member of my team had the opportunity to attend the event. Zachary is a member of Troop 1041 and has earned 34 merit badges throughout his Boy Scout journey. Each time our team attends one of these ceremonies, it is always great to hear about the amazing work Boy Scouts have done for our communities. Preparing for the Farm Bill: This year, Congress is set to update the Farm Bill, which is a piece of legislation that the federal government uses to address food and agriculture policy. To prepare for these upcoming negotiations, I held listening sessions in Green Bay and Luxemburg to discuss key challenges farmers are facing and how we can build upon successes of the previous farm bill. Opening Up Shop: Earlier this month, my staff had the opportunity to celebrate the grand opening of Boba House & Coffee Shop located in Appleton. This new business is owned and operated by longtime Fox Valley residents and will offer a wide selection of boba tea, smoothies, coffee drinks, and other treats. Innovative Solutions: I also had the opportunity to meet with the QComp Technologies team and tour their facility in Greenville. QComp does amazing work that improves the efficiency and productivity of companies across a wide range of industries, and it was great to be able to see this truly next level work firsthand. We need our high schools and UW schools to emphasize robotics and prepare their students for QComp careers. On Broadway: On February 21, my staff attended the State of Broadway District at Gather on Broadway in Downtown Green Bay. New developments were highlighted such as the Green Bay Public Market and volunteers were recognized for their time and dedication to the Broadway District. Caring for our Communities: Wello hosted their 4th Annual Well-Being Summit at the Green Bay Botanical Garden this month. A member of my staff attended the event to hear about the outstanding work the Wello team and dedicated volunteers continue to provide to the Greater Green Bay community. Other happenings in Northeast Wisconsin last month: Celebrating Paczki Day in NEW Teachers of NEW recognized with Golden Apple Awards Snowfall totals following recent winter storm in NEW REMINDER: If you're experiencing issues with a federal agency, my office is here to help.
