John, today marks the anniversary of a turning point in the fight against Black voter suppression. Today is the anniversary of the Bloody Sunday attacks.
On March 7, 1965, activist John Lewis, then just 25 years old, led over 600 marchers across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, AL, where they faced brutal attacks by state troopers. They were beaten solely because they wanted to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
But John Lewis refused to stand down. He stood his ground unflinchingly in the face of beatings and tear gas, a courageous action that would go on to be representative of his legacy as an activist and a history-maker.
With Black voters’ rights still under attack and voter suppression on the rise over 58 years later, we must remember days like Bloody Sunday and honor the legacy of John Lewis by taking concrete action to amplify Black voices.
The Collective PAC is working around the clock to do exactly that. If you can, please support our mission by chipping in anything you can today.
Thank you for all that you do to help us build Black political power.
