Two of Kidnapped Americans Found Dead
Two of the four Americans who were kidnapped in a Mexican border city last week have been found dead. The other two were rescued and returned to the United States; a suspect was in custody, as The Washington Post reports.

Yesterday I wrote about the Allman Brothers’ quintessential record “Live at the Fillmore East ‘71” and its contrast to the band’s 1976 record “Wipe the Windows, Check the Oil, Dollar Gas.” The song I posted yesterday was the “Wipe the Windows” version of “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.” That version features the jazzy piano of Chuck Leavell. Let’s now take a listen to the “Fillmore” version of the same song: it is one of the most exciting pieces of music that I’ve ever heard. The urgency of this track and the alchemy between guitarists Duane Allman and Dicky Betts is one for the ages. Listen to this one very loud (particularly about 10 minutes into the song). |
