Here are some updates from today.

On the 58th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, a violent clash at the start of a march for voting rights from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, we’re commemorating the sacrifices of the late U.S. Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) and hundreds of his fellow civil rights activists. Yesterday, President Joe Biden spoke in Selma, Alabama about the continued struggle for voting rights.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes (D) sued Cochise County for transferring oversight of elections from the board of supervisors to County Recorder (and election conspiracist) David Stevens (R), arguing that the move violates state law and the state constitution. [link removed]

A Tennessee court held a hearing in a lawsuit arguing that the state House and state Senate maps unfairly benefit Republicans in violation of the Tennessee Constitution. We'll keep you updated on any developments in this case. [link removed]

Lawmakers in Alabama and Florida convened their regular legislative sessions (although Florida already passed a new law this year to make election crime prosecutions easier during a special session). [link removed]

Yesterday, two conservative groups filed a lawsuit alleging that Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes’ (D) interpretation of signature matching procedures violates state law. [link removed]

Here’s what to expect coming up.

Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court asked parties in the independent state legislature theory case, Moore v. Harper, to submit additional briefing. The briefs will address how the Court’s case might be affected by the North Carolina Supreme Court’s decision to rehear the redistricting lawsuit from which Moore originates. Tomorrow on Democracy Docket, we outline the possible ways Moore could end, including the U.S. Supreme Court issuing no decision at all.
