PFAW Member,

While the House impeachment trial managers continue to make their case for
Trump’s impeachment before the senate, many of their Senate Republican
colleagues couldn’t be less interested in what they have to say. Some
Republican Senators are reading books during the trial, doodling on paper,
or even playing with fidget spinners.^1

As Senate Republicans refuse to take their role as impartial jurors
seriously, preferring to make a mockery of the process by refusing to even
pay attention, there is a growing bipartisan outcry from the public for
more witnesses and evidence to be considered in the senate trial.

Every presidential impeachment trial in the history of our nation has
allowed for witnesses to be called before the Senate. Yet Majority Leader
Mitch McConnell and his loyal lapdogs would rather thumb their nose at the
notion.

And to top it off, the Republicans are claiming that they are hearing
nothing new. Of course, that’s because they are blocking subpoenas for
witnesses and documents that the Democrats and the House impeachment
managers think the Senate and the public should hear. Yes. You heard that
right. The Republicans want to complain about the supposed “lack of
evidence” to support impeachment while simultaneously voting down every
attempt by Democrats to allow new evidence to be considered or obtained.

I’d call it a stunning level of hypocrisy, but it’s the type of behavior
we’ve come to expect from Republicans again and again and again.

If Mitch McConnell and his Republican colleagues in the senate continue
their efforts to cover-up Trump’s crimes, voters across the nation are
prepared to hold them accountable at the ballot box this November. It’s
long-past time for Republicans to rebuke the rampant corruption of this
administration and their appalling policy agenda.
