Friend,
In just 8 days, the Florida Board of Medicine’s rule prohibiting doctors from providing transgender medical care to minors will take effect. Not only does this rule impose a politically-motivated blanket ban on essential, best-practice medical care, it also prohibits further research on this type of care. Medical providers need more research to provide the highest level of care and help save young lives. This rule is dangerous, and unfortunately these kinds of attacks on trans youth are not new. As we track more than 400 anti-LGBTQ bills being considered across the country, it’s critical that we continue our work to protect trans and nonbinary young people every day.
Our 2022 U.S. National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health by State found that 54% of trans and nonbinary youth in Florida seriously considered suicide in the past year, and 20% made an attempt. Transgender young people consistently report disproportionate rates of suicide risk compared to their peers, and the increased politicization of their very existence continues to harm their mental health and sense of self.
No matter what, one thing is certain — Trevor is here for LGBTQ young people, and they are not alone, right now or ever.
Our advocates will continue to oppose harmful policies.
Our supporters and allies will rally.
Our community will show up.
