Seneca Falls & The Declaration of Sentiments

We continue celebrating Women's History Month by examining the event and document that in many ways started it all. It was Lucretia Mott who posted a newspaper ad announcing the 1848 convention in Seneca Falls "to discuss the social, civil, and religious condition and rights of women..." and Elizabeth Cady Stanton drafted the "Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions," which she read aloud after the opening of the convention. The Supreme Court is currently hearing a case with the potential to have a huge impact on social media. The family of an American student killed in France in a 2015 terrorist attack is suing Google for recommending videos that promoted extremist Islamic ideology on its YouTube platform. Your students can learn more about the case and join the debate on the question: Should social media companies be immune from lawsuits over content recommended on their sites? The deadline for the MyImpact Challenge contest is a little more than two months away. We want to remind you that in addition to the student prizes, the contest also will award cash prizes to the teachers of the winning students and the teachers whose students submit the most entries.

The teacher of the grand prize-winning student will receive $500 and the teacher with the students submitting the most valid entries will also receive $500. Up to 20 prizes of $250 will be awarded to the teachers generating the most entries (a minimum of three entries are required to win).
