It's been nearly one year since the House passed a historic background checks bill – yet the Senate is still refusing to vote on it.

In that time, there have been more than 375 mass shootings – 15 already in the first three weeks of 2020. Still, the Senate has done nothing.

With all the debates, arguments and statistics, Congress needs to look at the human toll of inaction – precious lives like my sweet little Daniel's.

It can be hard to comprehend the scale of what is happening, but I know all about the real lives on the other end of those weapons. That's why I refuse to give up, and why we need to push harder than ever to get this bill passed.

This is one of the most important legislative steps we can take to keep guns out of dangerous hands and ensure no more families experience the loss of a child to gun violence. I do this work to give my sweet little Daniel a legacy, but also to protect my other two children, James and Natalie. I know that the laws of odds and averages don't make us immune.
