Back in 2019, Amazon attempted to build their new Headquarters in Queens. Alexandria opposed the deal in which the City and State promised $3 billion in tax breaks in exchange for promises of “Amazon jobs” with little guarantees or guardrails.

Amazon ultimately decided not to build their headquarters in New York. And consequently the whole New York power establishment came for Alexandria.

Billboards went up in Times Square denouncing Alexandria, powerful politicians promised “revenge” and op-eds came out insulting her intelligence. But, in the end, we were right and they were wrong.

Alexandria may never get an apology for that time, but it was worth it. We protected our district from a scam deal to drain public dollars from schools and infrastructure in exchange for empty promises.

Alexandria never backs down from standing up for what is right, regardless of the insults and threats directed at her by the powerful establishment or corporate interests. Her job is to see the big picture and take care of our communities — and that’s exactly what she did here.
