Scientists say we should be very worried about what Thwaites glacial retreat means for our oceans and our planet.

John:

We have some bad news about West Antarctica's largest glacier, Thwaites.

Research published in Nature indicates that Thwaites Glacier is melting in some spots faster than it should be. What’s worse: it has possibly started rapid and irreversible ice loss that will raise sea levels by two feet this century.

This is already a huge red flag for sea level rise. If Thwaites were to disappear and its ice sheet were to plunge into the ocean, it could raise sea levels by an additional 10 feet.

As human-caused climate change continues to warm the planet, ice loss will only increase in speed. SEEC PAC Members are working hard in Congress to pass legislation that will combat the climate crisis, will you donate today to support their work?

Melting ice causes multiple detrimental impacts to people and ecosystems.

  • Sea level rise causes increased frequency and severity of flooding in coastal locations.
  • White ice reflects sunlight energy back into space. Without it, our planet will warm even faster.
  • Melting ice changes the temperatures of oceans, forcing wildlife to migrate and causing chaos for our food supplies.

Scientists say we should be very worried about what Thwaites glacial retreat means for our oceans and our planet.

SEEC Members in Congress are fighting tooth and nail to ensure that we take bold action to combat the climate crisis and mitigate future global warming. Will you join their fight with a donation today?

Thank you for your support,

SEEC PAC

Thanks to your help in 2022, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.
