Every year, House Democrats gather together at the Democratic Issues Conference to determine our priorities and strategy for the year. This year, I was so honored to deliver the Invocation (something I’d never done before!) to help center the discussions about our work.
I shared my favorite quote from the Talmud: “Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief. Do justly, now. Love mercy, now. Walk humbly, now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it.”
Like I told my colleagues, the big, complex problems in front of us can seem daunting and overwhelming, but we can’t give up hope or abandon our work, even if we can’t fully solve these problems. All of us – in Congress and in our communities – play an important role in making progress and improving the world around us.
