I recently spoke with USA Today about how while Black women voters have the greatest impact on elections, we still haven't had a corresponding investment in removing barriers for Black women candidates.
Everyone has the right to run for office, but a right doesn’t equate to access. It is up to us to create our own path in the political system where there never was one before. That's why I rely on grassroots donations to keep me in the fight, and why I’m asking if you can contribute $5 today.

Right now, only 23 states have ever elected a Black woman to Congress. Less than 50% of the nation.
If Democrats want to be the party that champions a reflective democracy, then we need to take active steps to break down systemic barriers that stop Black women from running for political office.

My experience isn’t unique, other Black women who ran last cycle also struggled with name recognition, endorsements, and funding support from our own party. Black women are the backbone of the Democratic voting bloc, and we need to be in rooms where decisions are being made about our communities.
As long as we have limitless spending in politics from dark money and corporate PACs that can always come in and outspend us, we will struggle to elect more Black women and people from working-class communities to positions of power.
That's why I refuse to take money from corporate super PACs. I'm not here to play politics, I’m here to get work done with the urgency our crises — the crises of Black communities, working-class families, and marginalized groups — demand.
