Smoking Gun and Nicotine Wars
We're delighted to announce two events that may be of interest to subscribers and friends of Forest.
On Thursday 23rd March we are organising a panel discussion entitled ' Smoking Gun: Prohibition and the Infantilisation of Britain'. Yes, it's a mouthful but do join us for promises to be an entertaining evening with our panel of guests (above).
From left to right, Christopher Snowdon is head of lifestyle economics at the Institute of Economic Affairs; Kara Kennedy is staff writer at The Spectator World (and author of the fabulous ' An ode to smoking'); and Reem Ibrahim is a final year student at the London School of Economics and communications officer at the IEA.
Chaired by Forest director Simon Clark, we will discuss recent developments in tobacco control including calls to raise the age of sale of tobacco from 18 to 21, ban the sale of cigarettes in the UK by 2030, and (today's story) 'end smoking' to free up 75,000 GP appointments a month.
Venue is the Institute of Economic Affairs in Westminster and the event begins with drinks from 18:15, followed by discussion (and Q&A) at 19:00.
Admission is FREE but places are limited so please register in advance. Click here for further details then email [email protected] to book your place.
No Smoking Day and the fight for choice
TOMORROW (Wednesday 8th March) is No Smoking Day and we're delighted to mark the occasion by supporting another event, this one organised by the LSE Hayek Society.
Starting at 18:00, 'Nicotine Wars: The Fight for Choice' is another 'in conversation' style event (with some familiar names, see below) but this time the complimentary drinks follow the main event!
Topics for discussion include the war on smoking, tobacco harm reduction, the infamous Khan review, and more.
Venue is the London School of Economics in central London, and afterwards we'll be adjourning to a nearby pub, The Edgar Wallace, to continue the conversation.
Non-students are welcome but you must register in advance via this online form. Do join us!
