I’m in Detroit, preparing for tonight’s debate (and listening to a little Lin-Manuel Miranda).

I want to make a few things clear before I take the stage:

If we’re going to reverse the damage done by Donald Trump and break up the tyranny of Mitch McConnell and the Freedom Caucus, we need to act swiftly with ambitious and durable solutions to our nation’s greatest challenges.

When I’m on stage tonight, that’s what I’ll be fighting for.

Tonight, I’m making an urgent case that to find our path forward, Americans must reclaim the ideals of our founders and repair the damage that’s been done.

These include our most cherished beliefs: that we are created equal; that our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are inalienable; and that it is our collective obligation to seek a more perfect union.

But I can’t do it without you.
