VIDEO OF THE DAY: Pissed off Joe Biden takes public shot at Ron DeSantis
The fed-up president went on the offensive against the tyrannical governor and his disgusting attempts to police the truth.
Take Action: Demand DeSantis and the Florida GOP denounce the bill to ban the Democratic Party!
Atlanta "Cop City": Terror charges filed against 23 protesters
Protesting is now terrorism, according to the Atlanta police, who are pulling out every trick in the book to punish those opposed to razing a city forest for the construction of a police academy. The arrested protesters were attending a music festival; the police say they were using the concert as cover to attack them with Molotov cocktails and fireworks, while the protesters say the cops "kettled" everyone together and lashed out indiscriminately at anyone in attendance. It's true several pieces of construction equipment were destroyed, but it's certainly not "terrorism," and the ease with which the police are using these bogus charges should tell you all you need to know about whether or not their accounts can be trusted.

5 women file lawsuit against Texas over the state's abortion laws
In the first lawsuit of its kind, five women have sued over laws they say prevented them from getting abortions despite risks to themselves and their fetuses that made the procedure a medical necessity. The draconian anti-abortion laws passed in red states following the Supreme Court's disastrous reversal of Roe v. Wade have created an avalanche of horror stories from women who've been unable to get life-saving abortion care as doctors refuse to perform the necessary procedures out of fear of legal repercussions — a new chapter in the heart-wrenching saga of America's vicious, for-profit healthcare system.

Justice Department set to block JetBlue's $3.8 billion deal for Spirit Airlines
In a win for consumers, JetBlue's attempt to devour its smaller budget airline rival will not come to pass. The deal would have made JetBlue the nation's fifth-largest carrier in the United States and allowed them to dominate certain routes, definitely not spurring "competition" as the company claims it would. The American airline industry is an absolute mess these days, and it's in no small part thanks to companies being able to ignore consumers and put profits above all else. This merger would have made it MUCH worse, especially for people who can't afford the absurdly high ticket prices charged by the major carriers.
Take Action: Tell Congress to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment ASAP!
Ohio officer who fatally shot a Black man in bed has retired "in bad standing," police say
"In bad standing" is a toothless consequence. Ricky Anderson, the officer who burst into Donovan Lewis' and fatally shot him as he lay in his bed, will only lose his badge and gun upon retirement — he still gets to enjoy his full public pension. No charges have been filed in the killing. It's a slap in the face to Lewis' family, and a grim reminder that far too many police can literally get away with killing the very people they've sworn to protect and face no real consequences for their actions.
Jim Jordan subpoenas former head of DHS disinformation board
The House GOP's witch-hunt has set its sights on Nina Jankowicz, who directed Homeland Security's short-lived effort to combat the deranged conspiracy theories and right-wing disinformation that floods social media to this day. To be clear, he's a proponent of bullshit conspiracy theories and wants to punish anyone attempting to stop their spread.
Help us hold the railway company accountable for the toxic spill in Ohio
atAdvocacy Partner: Decades of infrastructure neglect, job cuts, and stock buybacks by Norfolk Southern led to the horrifying toxic chemical spill in East Palestine, Ohio, and once again it's rural Americans who will be left to suffer the consequences. Can you chip in to help us fight for justice and make sure the railway barons don't get away with it?
Biden administration considering restarting family detention for migrants
Soon after he took office, President Biden put an end to the deeply inhumane policy of herding migrant families into for-profit detention centers, to be abused and exploited by private companies on the taxpayer dime. Some within his administration are pushing to restart the policy, though no decisions have been made, and there's reportedly heavy pushback from certain White House factions. It's up to us to raise our voices and let the president and his team know that we won't tolerate a return to the bad old days.
Never Trumpers rally in DC, trying to find hope and a plan amid despair
The entirely gelded "Never Trump" movement held a sad little counter-rally of 300 people while the true avatar of what their party has always been held court across town at CPAC. But even gathered together, they couldn't agree on what could be done to restore the GOP of old — you know, the kinder, gentler version of xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny, and racism the MAGA crowd simply injected with steroids and turned into a monster truck rally. “It turns out that once you let the toothpaste out of the tube, so to speak, demagoguery and bigotry and all that, some people like it. It’s hard to get it back. You can’t just give them a lecture,” whined talking head and longtime Republican cheerleader Bill Kristol. Allow us to play the world's smallest violin for him and the rest of the neocons who made this all possible.

Today’s Action: Support Temple graduate students on strike!
Last month, Temple University revoked tuition remission for the entire semester in response to graduate students striking for better pay and benefits. University officials aren’t even trying to hide their union-busting scheme — they sent a rather straightforward email identifying the strike as the sole reason for the tuition removal. They also shamelessly announced that the full semester tuition would be due by March 9th or students would be subject to $100 late fees.
It’s ironic that the union’s call for adequate pay was met with more explicit greed from the university. At the bargaining table, the university continued pressuring students to accept an inferior contract that would conveniently keep their yearly pay below the annual cost of living in Philadelphia. 80% of the union rightfully rejected the woeful terms, which means their strike will continue.
Temple University graduate students need our support! Donate to the Temple Strike Fund and spread the word with their social media toolkit! Amplify their (more than) reasonable demands for a living wage, healthcare for families and dependents, longer parental and bereavement leave, and better working conditions today!
