In this newsletter: Our higher education reporter, Emma Folts, checks back on the progress of a Pitt program ([link removed]) she wrote about a little more than a year ago as it launched. The university developed the program in response to national calls to reduce or eliminate the role of police in many mental health emergencies.

The university has not yet begun a formal review of the HEART program, which allows mental health professionals to join campus police in responding to some students in crisis. While Pitt's counseling director said the program needs more data to have an "accurate representation," some other universities are sharing updates and assessing early.
