Tens of millions of Americans spent years paying into Medicare. Now, many of them rely on it for their sole source of health care. At last month's State of the Union, President Biden made it clear we need to strengthen, not cut, this essential program. I couldn't agree more.

Despite their recent claims otherwise, some politicians have proposed cutting Medicare and have even resorted to using this program as a bargaining chip to hold the American economy hostage.

The bottom line is that Medicare is a promiseto the American people. It ensures that everyone can enjoy expanded access to health care and can live in the security of affordability. My Democratic colleagues and I have passed legislation, like last year’s Inflation Reduction Act, to reduce costs and shore up this program.
