Airport Workers are Sick of Waiting!
“We need healthcare and sick days now!” say contracted workers at Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA). The workers, SEIU 32BJ members, will be joined this afternoon (see Calendar, above) by elected officials and community organizations to support these basic rights for contracted airport workers. “MWAA has the power to enact a policy ensuring airport contractors provide baggage handlers, cabin cleaners, wheelchair attendants and other airport workers with a more livable wage, paid sick leave and employer-paid health insurance,” says Local 32BJ. Why the Fair Wage Act is necessary
“When you think about how rapidly costs are rising now, $17 [in 2030] is going to be like $13 today," 1199SEIU MD/DC political director Ricarra Jones told The Baltimore Sun last week in a story about Maryland Fight for $15. “We clapped for them during the pandemic. Now let's show them they matter,” tweeted Fightfor15Maryland.

Labor Quote: Lucy Parsons “We are the slaves of slaves. We are exploited more ruthlessly. The men, whenever wages are to be reduced, the capitalist class, use women to reduce them. And if there's anything that you men should do in the future, it is to organize the women.”
Parsons, IWW founder and labor organizer, died on this date in 1942. |
