Dear John,
As we solemnly remember the anniversary of Roe v. Wade and prepare for the 47th annual March for Life, FRC Action would like to encourage you with a reminder of some significant pro-life victories and provide you with some great pro-life resources to use when talking with your friends.
Since President Trump took office in 2017, his administration has taken significant steps to protect the unborn. In President Trump's first week in office, he reinstated and expanded the Mexico City Policy, which prohibits taxpayer funding of non-governmental organizations that perform abortions in other countries. In 2018, the Department of Health and Human Services introduced a new regulation that prohibits recipients of Title X family planning funding from providing or referring patients for abortions. As a result of the new rule, Planned Parenthood voluntarily withdrew from Title X, effectively defunding itself of $60 million in annual revenue. President Trump has also appointed over 180 pro-life judges, including two Supreme Court Justices.
New York's passage of the Reproductive Health Act, which permits abortions up until birth, prompted a vigorous debate in Congress and state legislatures across the nation. Senator Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) and Rep. Ann Wagner (R-Mo.) offered the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, a bill that would require health care practitioners to treat babies born alive after failed abortion attempts with the same care they would treat any other baby born at the same gestational age. Unfortunately, Democratic leadership blocked Republican requests to bring the Born-Alive bill to the House floor over 80 times last year.
The debate surrounding the Born-Alive bill provided a platform from which abortion survivors across the country could tell their stories. Last October, at our annual Values Voter Summit, we were privileged to hear a panel of abortion survivors -- Melissa Ohden, Josiah Presley, and Claire Culwell -- tell their inspiring stories. Please watch it if you haven't yet, then share it with your friends and family, especially those who are not pro-life. Even if it doesn't change their mind, it will at least get them thinking about the issue of abortion survivors born alive.
Here are a few practical steps you can take to make a difference:
* Pray. Pray that God would protect every unborn child from abortion and provide them with loving homes. Pray that our leaders in all three branches of government would protect life and that Roe v. Wade would be overturned once and for all. Pray that God would soften the hearts of those who support or seek abortion. Pray that the minds and eyes of abortion doctors, nurses, and clinic workers would be opened so that they would cease providing abortions. Lastly, pray for those working to eliminate abortion in America--legislators, public policy organizations, crisis pregnancy centers, student groups, and many more. The environment in which they work can often be hostile, and they need our prayers for God's protection and to have the courage and boldness to press on.
* Contact your members of Congress. Call, write, or email your member of Congress and ask them to support legislation such as the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, and the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. These are common-sense bills that deserve to pass with bipartisan support. We need more people to contact their members of Congress and voice their support. We have been told by multiple people who work on Capitol Hill that if a member receives at least ten phone calls, letters, or emails on a bill or issue, he or she will give it more attention.
* Educate yourself and those around you. You can start with resources from FRC, such as: "Biblical Principles for Pro-Life Engagement," "Top 10 Myths About Abortion," "Planned Parenthood is Not Pro-Woman," "The Best Pro-Life Arguments for Secular Audiences," and "The Next Abortion Battleground: Chemical Abortion." Visit the website to get copies for yourself and your friends and family.
* Support a pregnancy resource center in your area. These centers support women with counseling, supplies, and medical care completely free of charge. Above all, they lovingly urge the women who come to them to keep their babies. Thousands of lives have been saved as a result of pregnancy resource centers. Many need volunteers and are always in need of funds. Consider raising money for your local pregnancy resource center at your church through "The Baby Bottle Campaign."
* Attend the March for Life in Washington, D.C. or a city near you. Making your support for the unborn public sends a message to government leaders that we are serious about ending abortion.
We can all do our part to stop abortion in America. We hope these resources will be of help to you in this effort.
For life,
