Republicans annual CPAC conference was this weekend - and boy was in insane. MAGA extremists, right-wing personalities and conspiracy theorists were out in full force.
If you were tuning the whole thing out, I don’t blame you. But we as Democrats have to understand what we’re up against, so here is what you missed:
- Marjorie Taylor Greene used her speech to attack President Zelensky of Ukraine
- Matt Gaetz received cheers when he called to the abolish the FBI, DOJ and CDC
- Nikki Haley couldn’t walk anywhere without people chanting “Trump! Trump! Trump!”
- And Trump himself gave a speech calling for “retribution” and won the straw poll with over 62% of the vote - solidifying his position as the GOP frontrunner
If we learned anything from CPAC, it’s that we need to take Trump’s 2024 campaign seriously and we can’t rely on establishment Republicans to save us. It’s up to us to stop Trump.

As I expected, Trump used his speech to show his dominance among the pro-MAGA crowd by spouting a bunch of lies and conspiracy theories (including his favorite lie about winning in 2020) while attacking the justice system and claiming he’s a victim of the “woke” left and the media.
Who knew it was considered “woke” to defend our democracy? But I digress…
