It's Happening! #PO2020

What to Know: A group of Democratic states are suing the Trump administration over the EPA’s Affordable Clean Energy rules.

The TPPF Take: The Affordable Clean Energy rules are a needed and sensible updating of the Clean Power Plan.

“President Trump’s Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) rule, which Democrats have targeted, is everything the Clean Power Plan was not,” says TPPF’s Mandy Gunasekara. “The ACE rule is based on a real-world assessment of modern pollution control processes and technology. It is also carefully crafted to strengthen, not overtake, the role of states.”

The ACE will be a topic of discussion at Policy Orientation.

New Law, Old Questions

What to Know: The city of McAllen paid singer Enrique Iglesias $485,000 for a 2015 performance.

The TPPF Take: McAllen only fessed up after the Sunshine Coalition, which includes TPPF, helped pass new laws last session.

“Sunshine is the best disinfectant,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “Thanks to a new transparency law passed last session, local governments are having a harder time hiding bad spending decisions. It’s finally time to get to the bottom of some long-lingering mysteries so that the public can hold their elected officials accountable.”

Step Up

What to Know: U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers joins TPPF’s Ellen Troxclair on the Step Up with Ellen Troxclair podcast this week.

The TPPF Take: Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers is the 200th woman elected to Congress and a trailblazer by all accounts.

"From the divisiveness in D.C. to being a working mom, she shares what it's really like being one of the most powerful women in Congress," says TPPF's Ellen Troxclair. "And, despite what it seems in the media, she is more optimistic than ever about the future of conservative women in politics."
