NEWS FROM POWER TO DECIDE

Abortion Finder Receives Gold

Abortion Finder (AbortionFinder.org) was recently award Gold at the second annual Anthem Awards. The awards, presented by the prestigious Webby Awards, celebrate purpose and mission-driven work from people, companies, and organizations worldwide. The site was recognized in the Health Non-Profit Campaign Product, Innovation, or Service category.

Abortion Finder is the most comprehensive directory of trusted (and verified) abortion service providers available. The site regularly updates a State-By-State Guide on abortion laws; statewide and regional resources to assist with costs, travel, and more; and information on finding the nearest verified provider.

If you want to show your support for Abortion Finder—and abortion access in general—we’ve got you covered. From fancy lapel pins, informative palm cards, hand sanitizer, and (free!) stickers you can find all our swag at our online store

Celebrating Abortion Providers

As part of Abortion Provider Appreciation Day on March 10, Power to Decide, the team behind Abortion Finder and Bedsider, honors and acknowledges the incredible work of abortion providers everywhere, including nurses, doctors, clinic staff, and escorts. We thank providers for the work they do to provide essential health care to their communities and for fighting to demand access for all, no matter who they are or where they live.

As a token of our appreciation for the profound impact providers make each and every day, we are giving away 20 sets of designer scrubs to the amazing health care providers who are on the front lines, working hard to provide lifesaving, compassionate care to those in need.

By entering our fancy scrubs giveaway, providers will be subscribed to Bedsider Providers, a digital program by Power to Decide that offers free tools and information and discounted educational materials to increase the patient-centeredness and overall quality of a patient’s visit.

Access One Key Question Training Online NOW

Power to Decide’s One Key Question® (OKQ) online training is an interactive training that helps providers start the conversation about if, when, and under what circumstances people want to get pregnant and have a child. The notion behind OKQ is simple—it provides a framework for health care providers, social service providers, and champions to routinely ask: “Would You Like to Become Pregnant in the Next Year?” One Key Question meets people where they are, by offering four responses: Yes, No, Ok Either Way, Unsure. Client-centered and focused on understanding people’s goals and providing follow-up care based on the client’s response, whether that is for birth control, preconception health, prenatal care, or referral to other services, OKQ is a helpful tool to spark important conversations. It is non-judgmental and equally supports those who want to become pregnant, those who do not, and those who are ambivalent. Become OKQ certified today!

POLICY UPDATES

Federal Update

Last month, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a change to the regulations governing access to medication abortion to allow pharmacies to apply for the ability to dispense mifepristone, a medication abortion method in their brick-and-mortar locations. Both CVS and Walgreens have announced plans to begin to offer mifepristone in states where abortion remains legal. While this is not a solution to the growing number of abortion bans, this is an exciting step to improve access to abortion care where possible. Please see Power to Decide’s statement on this announcement to learn more.

State Update

State legislative sessions are under way in all but five states (AL, FL, LA, NV, OK). Sessions in Nevada and Oklahoma will commence this week, while Alabama and Florida will begin their sessions in March, and Louisiana will begin its session in April. Legislators in several states have introduced bills to allow pharmacists to prescribe birth control. These states include Indiana, New York, and Texas. Visit our interactive state policy maps for links to these bills to learn more.
