‘I Realized That the Innocent Victim in an Abortion was the Baby’
|
|
When I began my medical residency, I believed that abortion on demand was simply a matter of women’s rights – the “right to choose.” I felt that a woman should have control over her body and not be forced to bear a child she didn’t want. I also believed it was wrong to bring unwanted children into a world where they might be neglected or abused.
I wasn’t heartless … I had just been trained to compartmentalize my feelings. In my mind, the difference was whether the baby was wanted or unwanted. After I got my medical license, I got a job at a women’s clinic where I performed abortions. |

Crossing Cultural Divides
Author and pastor Dr. David Ireland has spent a lifetime involved with civil rights issues. His family moved to small community outside of New York when David was just a boy. Within two weeks, six white teenagers firebombed their home with Molotov cocktails, one of which went through his bedroom window.
Years later, David experienced an epiphany. His eyes suddenly opened to the diverse culture of people all around him. African Americans. Hispanics. Whites. Asians. Indian. In that moment, the presence of God said, “Why can’t it be like this in My house?” |
