Lisa Blunt Rochester for Congress

Hi there,

I recently celebrated my birthday and as I do every year, I took a trip down memory lane. To know where you're going you should remember where you've been, right?

As a little girl, one of the people I looked up to was my grandmother – my mother’s mother. She worked at a ball-bearing plant as a steelworker at a time when there were very few women in that position. She went on to become a union leader and an activist, and was a leader in the fight to end drugs and gun violence in her community. Her leadership and fearlessness is something I think about often.

As a young person, I was lucky that my first bosses – the ones that really took me under their wings – were very strong women who guided me and pushed me. They reinforced the values that my family instilled in me: to work hard, create a level playing field, and extend a hand to those who need it. Those values guided my work as Delaware’s Secretary of Labor, and as the state’s first African-American Deputy Secretary of Health and Social Services. Now, I take those values with me every day in Congress.

For me, birthdays are a time to reflect on growth and goals. If there is one thing I'm taking with me this year, it's how far we've come and how much work there is still left to do.

As Beyoncé said, “...if you don’t take the time to think about or analyze your life you’ll never realize all the dots that are all connected.” I’m so grateful that our dots are connected and that you're with me for another trip around the sun.

Your help laying the groundwork for the year ahead would mean the world. Could you chip in $10 or whatever feels right to you so that I can continue fighting for hard working families like yours?

Cheers to what the future holds,

Lisa
