SCA is now offering a 50 percent student discount on the registration/meals fee for Lobby Day. We hope to provide the first advocacy experience for secular students who want to make a difference in Washington. The registration deadline for students and everyone else is March 19; we need some time before March 24 to set up your appointments on Capitol Hill.
__________
In case you haven't heard: The Secular Coalition for America is once again holding its Washington D.C. Lobby Day! Join us for a Capitol Hill reception on the evening of March 23 and then on March 24 to meet with your members of Congress to discuss issues and legislation that matter to SCA and the secular community.
We will begin with a reception in the Rayburn House Office Building from 6-8 pm on March 23, with a legislator or two dropping by. On the 24th we will fan out across Capitol Hill to meet with lawmakers and staff on legislation and to ask them to join the Congressional Freethought Caucus. SCA will provide breakfast and lunch in The Gold Room in the Rayburn Building, which will serve as our headquarters for the day. We schedule the meetings for you, go over everything in advance in a webinar, and provide talking points.
Who can do this? Anyone. No lobbying experience is required. No one expects you to be an expert on policy or the legislative process. You just need to explain how secular Americans expect equal rights and how the issue(s) we will discuss affect you. You will go to meetings in groups of 3-5, depending on how many people we have from each state, and we will try to have an experienced Lobby Day veteran in each group. We will also have several government affairs people from our coalition members there to attend some of the meetings with people.
The exact legislation we’ll be advocating for will be determined closer to March 24 depending on what bills have been introduced by then and which we can have the most impact on.
Ready to attend? Click here to register and provide the information we need for scheduling your meetings. The registration and meals cost is $90, or $45 for students.
Our block of hotel rooms is full but there are many hotel options near Capitol Hill and on the subway lines that stop at Capitol South (the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines).
Questions? Email [email protected]. No questions? Then we hope to see you on March 23-24.
