Hi Friends,

Happy March! This year is already flying by with Congress working full steam ahead and South Texas continuing to build upon its fast-paced growth.

I want to keep our communities in the 34th District of Texas updated about what I am doing to support our success here in South Texas. We have a lot of work to do, and it takes constant collaboration with our local and state governments, and especially, you, to create a better future for our region.

Check out some recent highlights from the last few weeks!

Sincerely,

Toured the Port of Brownsville

On Friday, February 24th, my Washington, D.C. and District Office teams had the opportunity to tour the Port of Brownsville.

The Port of Brownsville is leading the way for more trade and economic development for South Texas.

Thank you to the amazing Port of Brownsville staff and the board of commissioners for hosting us!

Met With IBWC Commissioner, Dr. Maria-Elena Giner

On Wednesday, February 22nd, I met with International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) Commissioner, Dr. Maria-Elena Giner, to discuss how our region is impacted by water policies agreed upon by the United States and Mexico.

We must make sure that South Texas farmers and ranchers have access to the water they are guaranteed, and that we look towards the future to plan for fairer allocation of water resources to our growing region.

Met With Texas Oncology-Brownsville

On Friday, February 24th, I met with Texas Oncology-Brownsville to tour their facility and learn about their cancer treatment facilities in our community.

Texas Oncology is one of the largest cancer research centers and treatment providers in Texas. I’m proud to know that South Texans have access to life-saving resources, advanced therapies, and treatments. We must continue to fund cancer research and end cancer as we know it.

Met With Gulf Aviation

On Thursday, February 23rd, I met with Gulf Aviation at the Valley International Airport to learn more about how they are assisting with maintenance and aviation support throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Gulf Aviation offers services such as flight training, general, and mechanical support to Valley International Airport right here in Harlingen.

Our airports provide a vital connection to the rest of the United States and to international destinations like Mexico. As the Valley grows in size and population, so does our need for transportation infrastructure and services.

My Bill, PROTECT Taiwan Act, Passed Out Of Financial Services Committee

On Tuesday, February 28th, my bill H.R. 803, Pressure Regulatory Organizations To End Chinese Threats to (PROTECT) Taiwan Act, was  passed in committee. As a member of the Financial Services Committee, I was proud to introduce this measure, which garnered the support of both Democrats and Republicans.

This legislation aims to weaken Chinese influence on the world market if they take unprovoked action against Taiwan by excluding China from international banking organizations. We cannot let the atrocities of Ukraine be repeated. We must act and make our voice clear should China think to encroach upon Taiwanese sovereignty.

Watch my remarks in support of the passage of my bill in Committee here.
