After first proposing $220,000 payments last year, The California Reparations Task Force proposed at a meeting Friday that every black citizen in the state be given a $360,000 check. The project could cost as much as $640 billion but there was no word on how it would be funded in the cash-strapped state (New York Post). Walmart Leaves Portland Citing Crime
National Review: Walmart announced its plan to close its final two locations in Portland, Ore., at the end of March following underwhelming financial results. The closures, which will result in nearly 600 employees being laid off, come after a statement by Walmart CEO Doug McMillion in December 2022 noting that record-breaking retail theft had undercut the company’s economic performance of late. Andy Ngo: Walmart has announced it will permanently close all its locations in Portland, Ore. Nearly 600 will lose their jobs. Daily Mail: Authorities have said the latest Norfolk Southern train derailment in Ohio this Saturday did not result in the spillage of any hazardous materials and poses no health risk. Nonetheless, more than 1,500 residents of Clark County were left without power and those within 1,000-feet of the site were told to shelter in place ‘out of caution.’ The 22-car derailment came just a month after a huge 38-car crash in East Palestine made international headlines on February 3 and marks the company’s fourth derailment in the state in less than five months (Daily Mail). RNC Research: Q: “Are you going to endorse Joe Biden if he runs for re-election?” JOE MANCHIN: “Oh, there’s plenty of time for the election.” Q: “He’s the leader of your party…” MANCHIN: “No, the bottom line is let’s see who’s involved” (Twitter).
