Hello, Friends —

This week, the impeachment of President Trump moved to the Senate. Although the impeachment circus was in D.C., I was pleased to be able to spend the week back home in Northwest Florida, where it’s sunnier, friendlier, and saner than Washington!

IMPEACHMENT SHAM

Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats finally ended their obstruction of the Senate’s Constitutional duties — five weeks after their “urgent” need to impeach President Trump. If this witch-hunt demanded immediate action, then why did the Democrats take a month to hand over the Articles to the Senate? Why was it important to sideline legislative action in Congress for a single, hyper-partisan cause?

It’s because impeachment has backfired so badly that Democrats needed a month to strategize their next steps to smear President Trump, and prevent the Senate from holding a fair and rational trial.

The House impeachment managers took full advantage of the month-long “impeachment layover” to prepare. Given how tedious the Senate trial has been, it’s starting to seem like they could have used another month!

Secretary of Defense Esper Visits NAS Pensacola

On Wednesday, January 22, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper met with first responders at NAS Pensacola, and thanked them for their bravery. Shortly after, Sec. Esper also met with Governor Ron DeSantis and Navy leadership at NAS Pensacola, and discussed what steps are being taken to ensure greater safety for the men and women of our armed forces.

Following the attack at NAS Pensacola, Secretary Esper has worked tirelessly to strengthen the safety and security of our military bases. His visit to NAS Pensacola reinforced his commitment to Northwest Florida’s military mission and the heroes who serve here.

I look forward to continuing to work with Secretary Esper and the Trump administration on protecting our servicemembers, and ensuring our military mission is safeguarded against any future threat.

Congratulations to the University of West Florida, which recently earned a $2.4 million grant to prepare cybersecurity students for jobs in the workforce. The National Science Foundation ‘CyberCorps Scholarship for Service’ grant will provide 23 undergraduate and graduate students with scholarships, allowing them to fill a growing, nationwide need for cybersecurity professionals.

Northwest Florida has always been home to some of the greatest military personnel our country has to offer, and this grant will allow us to stay on the cutting edge of national defense.

MARINE CORPS MARATHON

Terry Bruce dedicated his career to our country, serving in the Marine Corps in Desert Storm in 1991, before retiring from the Corps in 2015. But despite multiple knee surgeries and a quintuple bypass surgery, he still succeeded in running the Marine Corps Marathon this October. This is what toughness looks like!

Matt Gaetz Scolds ‘Weak-Kneed’ GOP Opponents of DeSantis E-Verify Plan

“Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is calling out by name the Florida Republicans who are opposing Gov. Ron DeSantis’s hugely popular mandatory E-Verify plan to ban employers from hiring illegal aliens over Americans.”

Rep. Matt Gaetz: Establishment Dems are trying to keep Bernie Sanders ‘locked up’ in impeachment trial

“Sen. Bernie Sanders (l-VT), is hoping for a fast impeachment trial so he can resume his campaigning in Iowa ahead of the upcoming caucuses — but according to Rep. Matt Gaetz, (R-FL), the “establishment Democrats” are hoping to drag out the process and occupy the senator in order to hand the nomination to his opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden.”

Matt Gaetz: The time is now for E-Verify across Florida

“Galvano has argued E-Verify will be costly and time-consuming for businesses. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Not only is E-Verify free, it processes applications quickly and efficiently. It is a simple step employers can (and should) take to ensure they are hiring legal employees.”

Gaetz applauded for defending Congress’ constitutionally obligated role

“Fortunately, we have a new, bipartisan group Congress men and women willing to challenge the foreign policy status quo on behalf of our taxpayers and our servicemembers. One of these is Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.).”

End Taxpayer Handouts For Wildlife-Killing Cyanide Bombs

“Thankfully, Mansfield did not receive a direct hit of sodium cyanide, but the exposure he did receive caused him to suffer debilitating health effects. He and his family have since become powerful advocates against M-44s. In response to this horrific incident, Wildlife Services instituted an ongoing moratorium on M-44 use on public lands in Idaho, and Congressmen Peter DeFazio (D-OR) and Matt Gaetz (R-FL) introduced federal legislation to ban the use of sodium cyanide and another lethal poison, sodium fluoroacetate (more commonly known as Compound 1080), in the name of wildlife control.”
