John, last night at CPAC, MAGA Republicans didn’t talk about
their policies or big ideas to create a better future for our country.
They spouted off a long list of grievances and conspiracies — and no one
complained more bitterly than Donald Trump.

We’re building this campaign based on the priorities of Californians and
the issues they’re facing every day:

* The high cost of housing and homelessness
* The need to make the economy work for everyone
* Climate change and our planet
* Our health
* And yes, our democracy

[ [link removed] ]In a minute, I’ll explain a bit more about what each of these issues
means, but first, can you take a moment to add your thoughts to our March
Issues Survey and let me know which issues matter the most to you?

To build more housing that is affordable, we must reduce its cost,
strengthen salaries and incomes so people can afford to live near where
they work, and create new incentives for the development of housing, like
my bill to give favorable tax treatment to those who sell property to
public housing agencies and nonprofits.

To protect our democracy, we must expand voting rights for all by passing
H.R. 1, the For the People Act, and H.R. 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights
Act. And we need to get rid of the filibuster to do it.

We must also pass my legislation, the Protecting Our Democracy Act, a
landmark set of reforms that would enshrine our democratic guardrails into
law. No longer a suggestion, but law. So that no future president can do
what was once unthinkable, but Donald Trump made routine. We did it after
Watergate, and it is high time that Congress does so once again.

To combat the climate crisis, we must pass the Green New Deal —
legislation on which I am an original co-sponsor. The Inflation Reduction
Act was an important step forward. In fact, it was the largest climate
investment in our nation’s history. But we must go much, much further, and
create millions of green, new jobs.

To build an economy that works for everyone, we must make the wealthy pay
their fair share in taxes, invest in childcare for middle class and
working families, once again expand the Child Tax Credit, cancel student
debt, improve unemployment insurance, and much more.

And finally, we must pass Medicare for All. Health care is a right — not a
privilege. And in the richest nation in the world, we must have universal
health care. The pandemic exposed so many vulnerabilities within our
health system. We need to lower the cost of health care and prescription
drugs.

Issues Survey today, and let’s move this campaign and our country forward
— together.
