Not even a month ago, a train carrying hazardous materials derailed in East Palestine, Ohio — and the fallout has been devastating for the community. This was an unfortunate accident waiting to happen and is the culmination of years of deregulation and dangerous cost-cutting measures by railroad companies to increase profits at the expense of the safety of workers and the communities through which the trains travel.
Train derailments are unfortunately an all too common occurrence, made all the more dangerous by the transportation of dangerous chemicals like extremely unstable liquefied natural gas (LNG) which can lead to explosions and fires so hot they can burn people up to one mile away.
Gas company New Fortress Energy has a reckless plan to transport volatile LNG by rail 200 miles from northeast Pennsylvania to Gibbstown, New Jersey — despite
2 million people living in the potential blast zone. With this horrific disaster in Ohio, it's never been clearer that we must take action to protect people endangered by hazardous materials on trains.
Send your letter insisting the Department of Transportation take immediate action by banning LNG by rail nationwide — and prevent another devastating accident from happening >
