Rural Outreach Coordinated Campaign
John, activists know how crucial local government is and ROCC
is designed to be the hub where we empower one another to improve our own
communities.
We know down-ballot victories translate up, but also remember that so
often federal victories will never translate down to our communities
without ethical representation in our own local governments.
The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) has already allocated funds to
counties across America which can be used to invest in broadband
infrastructure, public facilities, and investments in housing and
neighborhoods.
But for apparent personal and/or political reasons, many
Republican-controlled counties are withholding the funds - even removing
them completely from the public eye by partitioning the money off from the
official budget.
Money to span the digital divide, award grants to local small businesses
and upgrade the local hospital may right now be purposely withheld by your
county officials to the detriment of your community.
The need to elect transparent and ethical county commissioners could not
be more apparent.
ROCC partners are compiling a toolkit for county commissioners to push for
full application of ARPA funds in their communities while also publishing
a companion toolkit for activists to investigate and spotlight what is
being done in their own counties with these funds.
It is our job to hold our local officials accountable, while guiding the
public in understanding the function of their government to empower them
to make change!
John, if you believe in the ROCC organizing infrastructure and
the value of partnering local leaders together to solve national problems
