John,

Earlier this year, the United States hit its debt ceiling – the amount of money it's able to borrow. We only have a few weeks to take action before the U.S. defaults on its debt, causing massive economic repercussions.

If our country defaults, Americans will see higher interest rates, millions will lose their jobs, and economic hardship will increase. We're on the verge of an economic disaster, yet Republicans in Congress refuse to act.

Republicans don't want to raise the debt ceiling unless vital programs – including potentially Social Security and Medicare – are cut in order to continue giving tax breaks to corporations and the ultra-wealthy. They're willing to hold our economy hostage and hurt hard working Americans in order to prove a political point. This is unacceptable.

If you agree with Matt that we can't afford to let our country default on its debts, add your name to call on House Republicans to raise the debt ceiling >>
