The cycle of student debt cancellation needs to end — the Biden Administration must stop wasting time and cancel student debt once and for all.
As one of Congress's only educators, and with over $100,000 in student loan debt myself — this fight is deeply personal to me, John. We cannot continue to shackle young and impressionable college students with debt that will follow them their entire lives. And working families should not have to make the harrowing choice between pursuing higher education and keeping their utilities running.

Long before the pandemic and well after, millions of Americans have had to handle the crushing weight and financial stress of paying back predatorily large amounts of student loans.
And during the 2020 election, we watched candidates make vast promises of canceling student loans if elected to office. But since then, we've only seen delays, excuses, pauses, and more false promises.
Canceling student debt is not only an issue of economic justice — but it's a racial and gender justice issue as well. Just look at the numbers:
- Over 43 million Americans owe $1.75 trillion in student loan debt — and that number will continue to rise.1
- Black and African American college graduates owe an average of $25,000 more in student loan debt than White college graduates.2
- Four years after graduation, 48% of Black students owe an average of 6% more than they borrowed.
- 58% of Black student borrowers do not believe student loans have advanced racial equality.3
The White House has the full authority and obligation to bring widespread financial relief to millions of Americans — and we need to continue putting pressure on those with the power to make a change.
Enough is enough. It's time for the Biden Administration to stop compromising our values and bring financial relief to those who need it most by cancelling student debt once and for all. Add your name to amplify our call.
