Dear John,
It was a busy week, but I’m back to keep you in the loop on how I am fighting for our conservative values.
It was an honor to introduce the Health, Opportunity, Protecting Life, Education (HOPE) Act. In this new Dobbs era, we must support mothers, particularly those with unplanned pregnancies, by providing them with educational and healthcare resources. This bill delivers them by increasing access to prenatal telehealth care and supporting pregnancy centers that provide medical and childcare services. The bill would also deplete Planned Parenthood of taxpayer funds unless it can demonstrate that it does not perform or facilitate abortions. Congress needs to support new mothers and babies, not abortion providers like Planned Parenthood.
I met with soybean industry leaders to discuss congressional priorities, such as increasing resources for the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corp. and expanding agricultural export opportunities in Europe. Agriculture is the 7th District's driving force, and soybeans play an important role in that. I will always welcome the opportunity to support the industry and, by extension, our district and country.
We learned a disturbing revelation from FBI Director Christopher Wray: federal investigators concluded that the initial COVID-19 outbreak was most likely the result of a lab leak in Wuhan, China. While shocking, this confirms what many Americans have long suspected. We must hold China accountable. In the previous Congress, I joined my colleagues in demanding that then-Speaker Pelosi drop her partisan agenda and investigate China's role in the pandemic. We also must hold the bureaucrats accountable for their handling of the virus, and if taxpayer dollars were involved.
