Dear John, Don’t miss March 8th International Women’s Day event! Join us in celebrating the lives of artist Elizabeth Catlett, party leader and former SNCC activist Debbie Bell, labor leader Etta Furlow, and anti-Jim Crow campaigner Edna Griffin, as well as Dorothy Burnham, Southern Negro Youth activist and Charlene Mitchell, the first Black woman to run for U.S. president on the CPUSA ticket. Angela Davis has also shared a greeting to the event. The event will take place on March 8th at 8:00 Eastern, 7:00 Central and 5:00 Pacific. Click here to register for the event. Check out these additional articles and videos from the CPUSA website: A few of the Communist women who shaped U.S. history: Major histories of women in and of the CPUSA have yet to be written, just as true women’s equality has yet to be won in the United States. Good morning, revolution! (video): International Women's Day, a historic Chicago election, the Supreme Court threatens student debt cancellation, Biden's semiconductor plan, and more U.S. support for violence against Palestinians must end: The CPUSA demands an end to U.S. support for the far-right Netanyahu government and its illegal and violent assaults on democracy in Israel and Palestine. Chicagoans vote for police control councils: Chicago's Feb. 28 elections was a historic milestone in the struggle to end police terror. Detroit reds celebrate Red Books Day: The Detroit CP and YCL joined a local celebration of Marx and Engels’ legacy. Good morning, revolution! (video): War in Ukraine and the path toward peace, a 4-day workweek, MTG calls for divorce between red and blue states, and more Call to action: The D.C. Communist Party is calling on all party districts to mobilize their members in solidarity with the people of D.C. to call their Senators. Tell them to vote against two Republican-led resolutions, H.J.Res.26 and H.J.Res.24, that would overturn D.C.'s progressive revised criminal code and immigrant voting rights bill, respectively. The Biden administration has pulled back on its promise to not interfere in D.C.’s right to self-governance. Several Democratic Senators have indicated their intention to vote with Republicans in overturning the revised criminal code, and the President said today that he will not veto that decision. That would be the first time in many years that the Congress has been able to overturn a D.C. law. The “tough on crime” hysteria is back, and we must fight against it. UPCOMING EVENTS The Marxist Classes: Marxist politics and gender justice: Join us to hear from Annie D. Raja, a member of the National Executive Committee of the Communist Party of India and General Secretary of the National Federation of Indian Women, on why communists must take the lead in the struggle against male supremacy—including in our own collectives. Register here to attend and receive a recording. The event will take place Sunday, March 19th at 12 noon Eastern; 11 AM Central; 9 AM Pacific. Book Talk: “Civil Rights Unionism: Tobacco Workers and the Struggle for Democracy”: Time to get reading! This event will be held in late April or early May. The exact date is TBA (ignore the date given in the event link). A free online version of the book is available here. Click on the event link for more details.
