House Judiciary Committee Holds First Markup for 118th Congress Oversight Plan

This week, the House Judiciary Committee held a markup of the Oversight Plan for the 118th Congress. This hearing was meant to lay out the business and oversight authorities of the committee's work for this Congress, yet Democrats spent hours trying to insert partisan priorities to distract from the committee's important business.

Congressman Van Drew Honors U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 8-4 of Absecon Island

This week, I honored United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 8-4 of Absecon Island for their volunteer work they provide to not only the Coast Guard, but also the South Jersey community. It was an honor to have the opportunity to meet this dedicated group of individuals, and I thank them all for their contributions in serving their community.

Flotilla 8-4 works to promote recreational boating safety in the South Jersey area, as well as assist the Coast Guard through auxiliary food service assistance, pollution response, search and rescue, communications, incident command, emergency management, and air and surface operations.

ICYMI: Congressman Van Drew Attends Judiciary Field Hearing at Southwest Border in Yuma, AZ

Last week, I traveled to our southwest border in Yuma, Arizona for a House Judiciary field hearing to examine the border crisis first-hand. Our committee heard testimony from law enforcement, the President of Yuma's hospital, and the Yuma County Supervisor.

I had the opportunity to tour the southwest border, the local hospital, as well as a local foodbank. The stories and testimony were jarring. Hospitals are at maximum capacity, with people having to fly hundreds of miles to receive care. Crime is rampant in the area, with cartels funneling illegal fentanyl into the community, getting in dangerous car chases with border patrol, and illegal migrants trespassing on private property and farmland.

This is a national security crisis and humanitarian crisis. Our American citizens cannot receive the care and resources they need because hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants have passed through the Yuma border since President Biden has taken office. House Republicans are committed to securing our border and committed to putting the American people first.
