Betsy DeVos just compared being pro-choice to being pro-slavery. I am outraged because this is outrageous.
As a Black woman and the Chair of the abortion access Congressional Task Force, I invite Betsy to come by my office and make that comparison to my face. I would welcome the opportunity to educate her.
It’s sadly unsurprising that Betsy DeVos would accuse the millions of advocates, activists, and people in this country who support the right to bodily autonomy of being comparable to those who supported the brutal enslavement of black and brown bodies. It shows the deep and willful ignorance of this Administration, and their willingness to invoke dangerous, racist language to support their own cruel and inhumane agenda.
Their dangerous, wrong-headed rhetoric and policies are why our movement is fighting each and every day to protect reproductive freedom and the fundamental rights of everyone in our communities.
Will you stand with me right now in condemning Betsy DeVos’ blatantly racist and anti-choice remarks by contributing to our movement for justice? Any amount you donate tonight will send a powerful message to the Trump Administration that our movement won't back down.
Collectively, we must unequivocally condemn Betsy DeVos’ outrageous statement and hold her accountable for invoking the legacy of slavery to attack an individual's right to choose.
