John:
This week in Washington was filled with working on legislation and voting with the views of West Texas at the forefront of every decision I make.
I started off the week with voting in support of H.J. Res. 30, which would nullify Biden DOL’s policy to allow the people investing American workers’ hard-earned money to base investment decisions on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations. The Biden Administration’s attempt to sneak ESG factors into the decision-making process for retirement plan fiduciaries is a brazen example of how the Radical Left has hijacked the Democrat Party.
I also voted in support of H.R. 347, the REIN IN Act. This legislation would require the federal government to show the inflationary impacts of President Biden’s executive orders. The American people deserve transparency about how Biden’s unilateral fiats – like canceling the Keystone XL Pipeline, padding federal employees’ salaries, and bailing out student loans – are impacting their pocketbooks.
As Congress looks ahead to this year’s Farm Bill, we must empower our nation’s producers, strengthen our food supply, and demonstrate fiscal responsibility by avoiding costly ad hoc disaster assistance and ensuring farm program integrity. That's why I led a letter with Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-KS), Representative August Pfluger (TX-11), and Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) urging the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide straightforward relief where farmers suffered crop losses.
It was great to see my fellow Red Raiders here in Washington this week! I enjoyed speaking with them and was very impressed by this group of talented students.
As former Vice Chancellor at Texas Tech, I can tell you that Biden's Student Loan Bailout would supercharge our current entitlement society and stick future generations with the $400 BILLION price tag. I'm glad to see the Supreme Court swiftly taking up this reckless and unconstitutional executive action.
Speaking of West Texas, I was honored to announce that the City of Lubbock was awarded a $9.5 million grant through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for the establishment of a new Texas State Veterans Cemetery. I am grateful for the teamwork and determination of our local leaders, state officials, and veterans’ community for making this a reality.
We will never lower our debt-to-GDP if we can’t grow the economy, and our nation’s fossil fuel industry is the lifeblood of our economy. I joined my friend Larry Kudlow to talk about how Biden’s assault on oil & gas is impacting our economy. Watch here.
I also published an op-ed in The Hill about our national debt and our responsibility to leave this country better than we found it. Read here.
Last but not least, I wanted to make it known that I share my constituents' deep distrust of the World Health Organization as a result of their failure to effectively address the pandemic and their potential complicity with China’s Covid cover-up. I will fight any attempt to surrender our sovereignty and cede regulatory power over the United States through a treaty, agreement, or arrangement negotiated by the Biden Administration or any Administration.
I am honored to serve as your voice in our nation’s capital. Your insights are invaluable to me as I work to solve the problems that face our country and advance the values and interests of West Texas.
